One of the world’s foremost tourist destinations, most probably associate it with the gondolas floating on the grand canals and carnivals filled with glittering masks and costumes. Said to date back to the 5th century, Venice flourished as a great hub of east-west trade from the middle ages, reaching its peak in the 15th century. This exhibition of highlights of the beauty of Venice from throughout the last 500 years features around 130 works from the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, from artists ranging from Titian, Tintoretto, and Veronese, the three great Venetian masters of the 16th century Renaissance; to 19th century Impressionists such as Boudin and Monet who were influenced by the Venetian Renaissance masters’ rich expression of color.
