Developed a "Wireless Motion Sensor" that does not require battery replacement

Providing energy-saving office buildings with personal control over lighting and air-conditioning

March 31, 2016

Nissha Printing Co.,Ltd.

Nissha Printing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Nissha”) has developed a "Wireless Motion Sensor" with the use of energy harvesting (environmental power generation) technology that does not require an external power source or battery replacement.
The elements that consume the most power in office buildings are lighting and air-conditioning facilities. The recent enactment of energy saving laws and global warming mitigation policies call for office buildings to cut back on the use of energy, and the emphasis is currently being placed on the level of reduction that can be achieved with regard to the energy consumed by lighting and air-conditioning.
The wireless motion sensor that does not require battery replacement developed by Nissha can be incorporated into the facility and equipment control systems within office buildings so that simply placing them on desk tops detects when workers are either at their desks or away from them, enabling personal control over the brightness levels of lights and the operation modes of air-conditioners when they are absent. The use of wireless motion sensors providing personal control over lighting and air-conditioning enables Nissha to contribute to energy-saving initiatives in office buildings.
Systems that use these wireless motion sensors have already been installed and are in operation in office buildings in Kanagawa prefecture.

Features

  • The sensors do not require any power line installation work, so they can easily be installed in new or renovated buildings. Layouts can also be easily changed.
  • No power source or battery replacements required for easy equipment management.
  • Uses open communication standards (*EnOcean), so can be incorporated into existing facility and equipment control systems.
  • Can be incorporated into the facility and equipment control systems so that simply placing them on desk tops detects when workers are either at their desks or away from them, enabling personal control over lighting and air-conditioning.
  • Improved accuracy levels over conventional models reduces detection errors (people passing behind the chair, for example) to provide precise chair occupancy detection.
* EnOcean is the registered trademark or trademark of EnOcean GmbH.

Installation Scenarios

  • Providing energy-saving initiatives for offices with high-frequency comings and goings by staff.
  • Incorporating the sensors into energy-saving systems during office renovation will reduce installation and energy costs.
  • Monitors office occupancy, so can also be used as sensors for crime-prevention and safety-confirmation systems.
  • Can also be used as call buttons.
