Launch high-volume production of soluble microneedle patch by using in vivo polymer such as hyaluronic acid and chondroitin

Nissha Printing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Nissha Printing) introduces DDS (Drug Delivery System) technology of BioSerenTach Inc. (Headquarters: Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto, hereinafter referred to as BioSerenTach) technology and launches high-volume production of soluble microneedle patch in the field of cosmetics and quasi-pharmaceutical products by utilizing our company's core technologies, die machining technology and forming technology. Sample shipment is expected to be initiated from February 2013.
Microneedle patch is a sheet patch, which is formed by needles with about 150 μm length, made of in vivo polymer such as hyaluronic acid and chondroitin. With fine needles, which does not cause pain when applying to skin, high efficiency can be expected because the principal ingredient can be directly replenished in the epidermis (upper skin layer).

Characteristics of our company's soluble microneedle patch

  • Sheet patch formed by needles with about 150 μm length, which is made of hyaluronic acid.
  • Ingredient of the base blended with the principal ingredient is dissolved, which can be directly replenished in the epidermis (upper skin layer). 
  • Fine needles do not damage corium (inner skin) and do not cause pain during use. 
  • Possible to form needle, which align the principal ingredient in multi-layer.
  • Concluded licensing agreement pertaining to soluble microneedle array chip in the field of cosmetics and quasi-pharmaceutical products with BioSeren Tach (October 5, 2012).

Target market

Although the growth rate of skin care cosmetics industry remains unchanged, the industry is a large market with the market size of 950 billion yen. Among them, although the market size of doctors' cosmetics (skin care) industry in which cosmetics are developed based on the experience of the past treatment, is 66 billion yen, the growth rate is as high as 10%. These skin care cosmetic industries, which market size exceeds one trillion yen, are the target market.

Future deployment

Trial production line will be set up within the headquarters of Nissha Printing in December 2012, and sample shipment is planned from February 2013. Perform OEM supply of cosmetics and nonmedical products to cosmetic and quasi-pharmaceutical manufacturers domestically and outside the country and aim at sales volume of 500 million yen in 2014.
